Homeschooling - The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful
With just two weeks left of summer break I have all the feels of the impending back to school season. It's that time of year when memes and videos of parents doing the "back to school happy dance" are in full force. For me, when I think about sending the girls back to school I get a feeling of nausea. I have woken up twice recently in a "we aren't ready" panic, remembering the chaos of what our life was, afraid of missed opportunities because of the busyness of our life.
And then, I'm reminded, I'm not sending them back to school. Phew! My blog was previously called This Beautiful Chaos This is My Life (I know, I know, it was wordy) I'm thankful that that is no longer my reality. And it's not the reality for many of you who are packing lunches and hitting deadlines with your kiddos come September and killing it! That is amazing! But it simply wasn't for us and that's why we had to figure out another route!
Our schooling takes place together, anywhere we are. Sometimes learning takes place in our home, on vacation, at museums, parks; there is no schedule, and no limits. The only constant is that we are learning together. That panic reminds me that I'm where I am supposed to be, that homeschooling is what is right for our family. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe homeschooling is right for every family, but I am passionate about encouraging anyone who considers homeschooling to take the leap! In my experience, many parents are held back for fear of failure but I believe in the idea that if you parent your kids you have the ability to teach your kids.
Over the next series of posts I would like to answer some of the most asked questions I get asked in regards to home schooling. Why we do it?, How we do it?, What it actually looks like for our family? and more. I hope to dispel some of the myths and stereotypes and showcase our family as an example of the good, the bad and the beautiful!
