Dinner & a Movie: Peter Rabbit
There’s something about spring that makes me want to gather people around the table, open the windows, and bring a little whimsy to dinner. And this week’s Dinner & a Movie pick felt like the perfect fit for the season—Peter Rabbit! Lighthearted, playful, and full of garden charm, it’s a classic that bridges childhood nostalgia and seasonal beauty.
Peter Rabbit is the kind of film that makes you want to run barefoot through a meadow and then curl up with a slice of carrot cake. It’s cheeky, endearing, and just mischievous enough to keep both kids and adults smiling. Whether you’re watching it for the first time or revisiting it as a family favorite, it’s a delightful way to welcome spring.
The Menu: Straight from Mr. McGregor’s Garden
Inspired by the vegetable patches and charming countryside in the story, we kept the menu fresh and rustic:
Herb-Roasted Chicken with carrots and baby potatoes
Garden-Fresh Salad with mixed greens, radishes, and edible flowers
Carrot Cake Roulade by the lovely folks at @crumblecrate (more on that in a minute…)
Everything was simple, seasonal, and family-style—perfect for a casual but elevated weeknight meal or even a springtime gathering like Easter brunch.
The Tablescape: Mr. McGregor Meets Cottagecore
Let’s talk about this table, because honestly? It might be one of my favorites yet.
We started with a grass runner that brought an instant sense of life to the table, then layered in fresh vegetables—radishes, carrots, and lettuces—that were as beautiful as they were edible. In the center sat a carrot-and-floral arrangement, overflowing with spring blooms from Trader Joe’s. It was wild, joyful, and absolutely stole the show.
To complete the look, we added:
Lettuce Placemats from @hesterandcook
Tea Cups & Pot from @target
Place settings from @homegoods
And of course—candlelight, because no dinner is complete without that soft, welcoming glow.
The whole vibe felt like you were dining right in Mr. McGregor’s garden—with a little extra charm, of course.
Remember when I flopped my titanic dessert (RIP homemade éclairs 😅). Well, God bless the internet and the women behind small businesses like @crumblecrate, because their Carrot Cake Roulade saved the day.
Not only was it beautiful and so easy to make, but it also tasted incredible—light, spiced, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. It paired perfectly with the Peter Rabbit theme and is now officially being added to my Easter menu. If you’re looking for something show-stopping but approachable, this is it.
This one was light, fresh, and full of charm—the kind of evening that makes you slow down and smile. Whether you’re planning something special for Easter weekend or just need a little spring pick-me-up, a Peter Rabbit-themed dinner is the loveliest way to gather the people you love.
If you recreate it, tag me! I’d love to see your own take on this springtime celebration.
