Dinner and a Movie: The Greatest Showman
Because a little drama, a lot of popcorn, and a touch of magic make for the perfect evening.
This week, our Dinner & a Movie series took a bold and colorful turn under the big top with one of our all-time favorite films—The Greatest Showman. We watched it in theatre and went back the very next day to watch it again. With its unforgettable soundtrack, dazzling visuals, and heartwarming message about embracing uniqueness and building something beautiful from the ground up, it’s the perfect movie to pair with an equally showstopping meal and tablescape. I’m obsessed with Michelle Williams costumes! Still looking for that blue coat.
Whether you’re hosting a themed dinner for friends or just looking to turn an average night into something special, this one is all about fun, color, and carnival charm.
The Menu: Circus-Style Comfort Food
We leaned into all the nostalgic favorites you’d find at a turn-of-the-century circus, elevated just a bit for a cozy at-home feel:
Hot Dogs with Chili – Classic, messy, and utterly satisfying.
Deconstructed Corn on the Cob – Roasted and served off the cob with butter, sea salt, and a hint of lime for an easy twist.
Crispy French Fries – Because no carnival meal is complete without them.
Funnel Cake – The true showstopper of the night! Dusted with powdered sugar and devoured in seconds.
Movie Theater Popcorn – We picked it up fresh from our local theater for the ultimate authentic vibe.
The Tablescape: Big Top Beauty
We didn’t hold back on the drama here! We used:
Red & White Tablecloth Rolls to mimic the bold stripes of a circus tent. My walls paid the price, but it was worth it
Striped Paper Runner from @hesterandcook to tie everything together.
Popcorn Bags with Red & White Carnations tucked in and actual popcorn used as filler—an unexpected detail that had everyone smiling.
Candlelight and vintage touches gave it just enough whimsy and wonder to echo the film’s magic.
It was the kind of night where everything felt a little brighter. The music blasted through the house (cue This Is Me on repeat), and we all walked away a little more inspired, a little more joyful—and very full.
This theme is perfect for a birthday, girls’ night, or family dinner. Let the movie guide you: be bold, be extra, and don’t be afraid to mix stripes, florals, and fun. The more playful, the better.
