Kick Off the Christmas Fun on December 1

Holidays provide amazing opportunities for connection and fun. Adventure is literally on the tee and ready for you to take your swing. It doesn’t take much to make a big impact and in-turn create special memories for years to come. This isn’t about being a Pinterest Mom, this is about elevating what you are already doing. You’re already cooking meals, elevate meal time to make them special and unique. My goal in creating this space is to hard-wire my kids memory banks to be jolted with a feeling of nostalgia and joy when they hear a song or a holiday is upon us. I love to have adventures to look forward to and know that no matter what is going on around us that there are these moments of connection. I literally plan one special dinner or surprise and from that day forward my kids can be heard saying to their friends, “we always do this or that”. I laugh, thinking, “We did that one time.” Don’t underestimate extra-ordinary moments thrown into the mundane of the everyday.

I set up our Christmas decor long before December. My birthday is November 7th and the Christmas set up is always a gift I give myself. It grounds us for the dark days ahead giving us Hygge peace ️

December 1st is a great opportunity for intentional fun. It’s the start of advent calendars and the Elf on a Shelf tradition. We always kick off the month with a special breakfast. Like an invitation into the Christmas season. If you do Christmas pyjamas, this would be a great time to present them, that way they can use and enjoy them all season. Another fun surprise would be a new Christmas book. These are some of our favourites.

I said earlier that you don't have to be a Pinterest-mom, but I definetly encourage you to use Pinterest. No need to reinvent the wheel, literally type in any theme and it’s there at your disposal. Your kids won’t know the difference and you can still get to take all the credit. It’s a win-win.

Some theme ideas for a December 1st kick-off are Snowman, Elf-on-a-shelf, Santa, Reindeer, Snow, Grinch. (For me, I revolve the theme around the shapes I have the capability to make the pancakes or waffles into.)

Because we homeschool our fun will be extended out, but the breakfast can be done regardless of your school schedule. Even when the girls went to school we would kick off December with this breakfast and they left for school with joy in their hearts, smiles on their faces and late slips in their hands.

When the kids were young and woke up early and then in school where we had a schedule to keep I set up the night before, thus ensuring the morning was peaceful and the girls were guaranteed a surprise. I’m talking a 5 minute set up. Throw a Christmas table cloth on the table, set with Christmas dishes, maybe sprinkle with some confetti if I’m feeling crazy!

Follow along on the Adventure!
